I did it Cheaper! Wall Clock

By now you all know how I love maps, and that they are part of the decor in our family room.  A few weeks ago hubby mentioned that it would be nice to have a clock in the family room.  Well, I knew just what I wanted.  So I started scouring the 'net, and I found lots of beautiful clocks.
Like this one, too modern, and cost $31.98 plus $12 shipping!
and this one, which I really loved, that was $24.99 with $10 shipping
or this one, for $82 plus $12 shipping.
However, I just couldn't pay the price.  Some weren't bad, but when you added shipping, well they weren't so affordable.   I was cleaning out one of the storage cubbies and I came across a basic, boring clock.  It was a wedding gift, so we've had it for almost 9 years now, and never used it.  Not sure why.  Anyhow, here is what it started out like.

Then I raided my map stash for the perfect map.  I wanted a map that was familiar, someplace I knew well, or had visited.  I ended up choosing a map of Virginia.  It shows a good portion of the state, mostly the Tidewater area.  This map had good colors and contrast.
Here is what the clock looks like now!

I really love how it turned out!  The best part? I didn't cost me a thing!  I already had everything on hand.  That's the best kind of project!!  Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to post a tutorial so you too can do your own clock!

  1. What a wonderful transformation. I love using maps in my creations and you did such a good job with that plain old clock. I knew it looked familiar...we had one exactly like it hanging in the garage. My husband replaced it with a stupid sports clock and I saved the plain one to repurpose. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Very Clever, I love all things made with maps.
This would be great in a kids bedroom that we are going to do up shortly that will have a bit of a map thing happening.
