Kitchen Sink Soup and an Appology

First an apology, sorry for the lack of posts this week.  I've had some computer problems that I really hope are fixed now!  Ever had your computer shut off randomly over and over again?  Its really annoying.  Anyway, Kitchen Sink Soup.  It is not what is sounds like, no I don't make it in the kitchen sink!

I call this soup Kitchen Sink Soup because I throw anything and sometimes everything I have on hand into it.  When it comes to soup, I rarely use a recipe.  I just throw in whatever looks good and hope for the best.  So, first I started with a ham.  I cooked the ham last week, and we ate off of it for several meals, and snacks, but we were getting tired of it.  I had saved the ham bone, so I could use it for this soup.

You will need:
1 ham bone or hock with some meat still on it
enough water to cover about an inch above the ham bone, boil for 1 hour. Remove bone and set aside to cool.  You will want to pull off any meat still on the bone for the soup.

2-3 cups chopped potato
2 cups thickly sliced carrots
1 finely chopped sweet onion
1-2 sliced and quartered leeks
2-4 cups chopped ham
1 bag dry great northern beans (cooked the night before in the crock pot) or 2 cans great northern beans, reserve 1 cup broth
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons Suzy Q Santa Maria style seasoning (mix of white pepper, salt, garlic powder, parsley)
1-2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
Add everything except the beans and let it boil for 45 minutes, add beans and simmer for 30 minutes.

This can easily be made with left over veggies as well, and you can add just about any veggies you want, hence the kitchen sink name.  You can also add one chopped apple for a slightly sweeter taste.

When my hubby took the first bite he smiled and said this is really good!  Then dug in!  I love when that happens!!  Even Little Monkey ate it up, she liked the beans and meat best, wasn't totally crazy about the rest, but that's a 2 year old for you!

On a side note, when hubby got home last night Little Monkey was waiting and ready with her tea set.  She had asked to play with it, and since she was getting in the way of my making dinner, I decided it was just fine.  I even put water in the pot! (something I never do!!)  Of course I had a very wet table, but it was fun to see her "serving tea".  She and daddy sat down and had tea together before dinner, it was so cute!  I am so glad that my hubby will do things like that, he even held the tea cup with his little finger out!  She thought that was funny.
Thanks for stopping!  Stop by again soon, I've got three projects that are wrapping up that I can't wait to show you!

  1. Soup looks great! Funny we had the same exaact computer problems. My husband spent hours fixing it, but he did. We had to download this software to clean stuff up. We had no virus though, weird. Have a great weekend!
