Jewelry Display

Happy Monday to you all!  I was going to show a different project today, but my weekend plans got all shot to pieces  before the weekend even started, which was a bummer.  However, all those "to do" items from the weekend are being carried over to this week and I am determined to get them done!  We had a weekend of stomach ailments, so not much work got done.  However, I did manage to finish one project that I started last week, this is my first project of 2011!  Sad I know, January is almost over and I am just completing my first project.  Ah well.

The inspiration for this project came from Sassy Sites where Operation Organization is in full swing!  She showed a whole range of projects from various bloggers who came up with unique solutions for their jewelry organization.  This particular one was my inspiration.

This girly jewelry board was created by Marianne at Songbird. I think she did a beautiful job, you can see more here.

I wanted something girly, but a little bit tailored as well.  Here is what I started with.

This is a framed cork board I picked up at Goodwill for .95 cents last summer.  When I bought it, Hubby looked at it with raised eyebrows as if to say you need this why?  I just smiled and bought it, not really knowing what I would use it for, I just stashed it away and knew it would find a purpose.  I had to do a bit of repair, the frame was loose, and it had one crack, there was no way to nail it back together, so I snagged Hubby's Gorilla Glue and went to work.
here is where it was loose, I glued it, then added a little putty and we were good to go
An hour later it was set and ready to be painted.  I pulled out the paint I originally chose for our bedroom, if you'll recall Hubby and I each had a green we liked, while I was away he mixed the two together and painted our room. (and I love it!) There is still half a gallon of the avocado green I liked, so I used that one the frame.

I felt like it needed a little something, the cork wasn't in the best shape, so I pulled out some left over burlap and hot glued it in place and then cut along the edges afterward.  I still felt it needed something, so I added some black ribbon, and then the monogram. At that point I showed it to Hubby and he loved it, he then mentioned he had some push pins I could have.  I smiled and said thanks, all the while thinking that I really wanted some fancy, pretty push pins.  I looked online, and they were kinda expensive.  So I pulled out my glue gun and went to work.  I pulled out an old shirt, and started cutting.  Then searched through my scrap book supplies for some green jewels and glued it all together.  Here is what I came up with.

What do you think?  I love the flowers!  I showed Hubby the finished product and his eyebrows flew to his hairline, he grinned and said wow, that looks really good.  (I was almost offended at the surprise in his voice, but then decided I was too excited about how it turned out and I would just be happy I could still surprise him!)  He kept looking at it, then he finally said, I thought you were going to use push pins, how are you going to attach your jewelry, then I showed him that the flowers were the pins he had given me.  He just laughed and shook his head and said I should have known, you and your flowers.  (smiles)

So here is my finished (mostly, still needs some hangers on the back) product.

Want to make one yourself?  Go for it, it was so easy!  It really only took a couple of hours!

  3. I Like! You did a good job with using things you already had and reusing something that was bound for the trash. Did you just glue your flowers to the push pins? Looks great!
