A Bit of Everything

Hello blogland!  Hope you all are doing well, we are crazy busy here!  I have decided that I am taking next week off, off work, off blog, off everything!  It is time for a true vacation!  So, this will be the last blog post for the year from me.
First, I was reflecting on the year, it has been a year of ups and downs, good and bad, but my over all feeling?  Its been a good year.  Hubby and I have grown closer in many areas, and I think we have both matured in some areas as well.  (That's always a good thing!)  Little Monkey is growing and learning things at an incredible pace, and we are so enjoying every minute of every day with her.  I can not imagine life with out her, and hope and pray we never have to experience that.  Above all, I think I have learned even more about trusting in God, and what it means to lean on Him.  A lesson that is usually not so fun to learn, but in the end it is for the best.

I have also learned that I can do a lot more DIY type stuff than I ever thought!  I love learning that about myself, and the fact that I actually like it as well!  I have a HUGE list of things I still want to do, or try, but they will come eventually.  I am still working on learning to prioritize, I don't always get that right.  I mean, who wouldn't rather do a fun project than clean the toilet right?  However, since hubby likes a clean house, that has to be a priority over my fun stuff.  Most days it is fine, but not always....

Okay, so what have I been doing lately?  Making flowery hair clips for my Little Monkey, and for a local children's boutique.  Now, first let me say I did not set out to sell to the store, it was sort of by accident.  I have seen lots of great tutorials about how to make different types of flowers.  I tried a few of them, and loved several.  I took Little Monkey to the shop with me, and she was wearing one of the clips, Jodi, the owner noticed immediately.  She asked where I bought it, and one thing led to another, and.....well the rest is history.  So here are some of the clips I have been making.
sorry for the terrible picture, I was taking it bad lighting.

All the small flowers have vintage buttons that I got from my Aunt and my Mom, and an auction.  I especially love the old metal buttons, there is just something about them.  My Little Monkey just loves the clips, especially one made from a Canadian dime. (since we are in the States, they can't really be used here).  She thinks its pretty special to have money on her clip.  I am working on one that has an Asian coin ( not sure what country as I can't read it!)  All together, I have taken in about 30 clips, and sold 6 or 8 in 2 weeks.  I'm not going to get rich on them, but it is fun to make and nice to make a bit of money.

So, in closing, here is a quick sneak peek at what I am working on, and hopefully will finish right after the new year.

I hope you all have a great end of the year, and a wonderful beginning to fresh new year!
Melissa

  1. Hey Mel,

It was good seeing you guys in TX. I really like the cream colored full looking flower clip. That is like the one I was talking to you about. Are you going to do a tutorial? Or, maybe I can just buy one from you. :) Let me know.
    Happy New Year,
    Aunt Maggie
