Miss Mustard Seed or Miss Funky Junk?

I have long loved the styles of both Miss Mustard Seed and Miss Funky Junk.  I love how Donna (Miss Funky Junk) can use anything and I mean anything and make it a great decoration.  Marian aka Miss Mustard Seed, does amazing things with drop cloths, and also does wonderful signs!  While my style is not like either of theirs, I do love their styles!  When they issued their Copy Me Challenge I was excited.  I really wanted to try to copy both of them.  Last night, I finally got the chance to give it a try, I used the same table, and created two different settings, lets see how close I got!

First up is my try at Funky Junk style.

Most of the items I used, I stole borrowed from hubby.  Believe me, he gave me a considerable hard time about all the things he has passed up because I couldn't figure out what to do with them, and here I was using those kinds of things.  I told him he was right.  I really like how this turned out, I might do some version of this permanently, it can't be the same though, Hubby wants his junk back! (smiles)
antique box with miniature number stamps inside
Old antique pipes we got at an auction, I love the look of the leather one!
burlap wreath is the only thing in here that was mine!  The rest was borrowed from hubby.
antique everything! Oil lamp, cobblers anvil and stand, folding ruler, metal tool box, top of an old chopper, wooden plane, metal crate, and a tool that I have idea what it is used for!
Top: Cast iron Mamie bank, cow tag, ink pot and quill pens, old window turned mirror, rusty cow bell, really old shipping box with two old door knob sets, two old pipes,  enamel ware coffee pot with twigs, punch box.
This was so fun to create!  I loved looking all over my house and garage for items for this set up.  Hubby loved it!  Though he did think it was a bit much for just the table.  He would have spread it out a bit more along the sides of the table.  That's fine, for my purposes this was the way it had to be.  Now that I know I can do this, you will start to see some funky rusty items in my decor.  Thanks Miss Funky Junk!

Now we have Miss Mustard Seed style.
I will admit that I had a harder time with this one.  With both styles I only wanted to use what I had around the house.  I did make the burlap wreath real quick, it was fun, and I'll probably make another!
two vintage gold frames, a vintage christening gown (family heirloom), vintage sheet music, pewter magnifying glass, antique croquet ball, antique door knob sets, pot with a flower ball.

My burlap wreath!
This was what I started with, but after consulting hubby, we both felt that the white box didn't really go.
So, instead we added this old crock with some twigs. I like this much better.

the whole shebang!

So, what do you think, did I come close?
Funky Junk style or...
Miss Mustard Seed Style?
Did I come close? I have to admit there are elements I love about both styles, but I think I'll end up with a combination of the two for this little table!

  1. I wish I could comment intelligently on either one, but I am unfamiliar with their blogs. I will check them out over the weekend and get back to you, LOL. Which style do you think you copied best? (I am a Nosy Nellie.)

  5. You did a wonderful job on both! Perhaps without knowing it, you showed how versitile a space and stuff can be. You achieved two different looks with your own things on the same table. Well done!

  6. Oh how fun! I love them both.....and I love both those girls. I tried my very first Miss Mustard Seed glazing project and lets just say I've got a way to go. Very talented ladies - and so are you! I love that your hubby had so much input.

  8. Both designs are beautiful. I have my family's Christening robe and would like to display it, I like how you hung that one off the frame-mine is really long though so I might have to hang it another way or find a really big frame!
