Neutral Baby Quilt

By now most of you have probably figured out that I am not a neutral person.  I like color, actually I love color.  I see people's houses that are done in neutrals, and I love them, they are awesome, I just could not live in them.  I need color.  I have a friend, she is one of these people who loves neutrals, her house well, lets just say it is amazing, and I love it, I just couldn't live in it cause I need color.  She recently had a baby, a tiny little girl, who is so beautiful!  Before this little one was born I decided I wanted to make a quilt.  I had a really hard time deciding on fabrics.  I was so drawn to all the colorful fabrics, but I knew her momma was more into neutrals.  I picked my fabrics, I'll tell you, I wasn't too thrilled with them.  They just were not clicking with me.  But, since this was not for me, and my mom assured me that one of her favorite quilts she made was all neutrals (she's not really a neutral person, but she's not as colorful as me either), I decided to go with it.  I made a pattern called Around the World.  It is an old pattern, but very simple, and you can find the directions here.

All the fabrics I used had patterns, but they were subtle.  To "jazz" it up a bit, I found 3 fabrics that had gold glitter on them.  Now wait, I know you are thinking "how tacky!"  The glitter was very subtle, only visible in certain lights, and frankly it looked good with the other fabrics.  In the end I think the glitter fabrics really helped this quilt to "pop".   The only problem, you can't really see the glitter in the pictures.  Oh well, someday maybe I'll have a camera that does better pics, for now, I am happy with the one I have!

I pieced and quilted this on a sewing machine, and the quilting was done "on point".    I really love how this quilt turned out!  I thought it might get a bit boring (to me anyway since I love color) but I love it!  Part of me wanted to keep it! That always happens when I make a quilt, a little part of you goes into it, so you want to keep it.  But, if I kept them.... well, you know.  So, total cost for this project, $12, that's a price tag I can live with!!
