Hi All! Been a busy week around here! Trying to play catch up from the weekend, and get ready for this coming weekend, whew! Too much to do. I did however manage to slip in a little DIY time yesterday. Remember this steal of a deal I showed you last week?
It needed to be cleaned, and it needed a new coat of chalk board paint.
Here is what it looks like now!
Do you see the scroll at the top? That is in sad shape, it used to have several versions of the alphabet, in printing and cursive, but the section shown here is the most intact. The next picture shows the top of the scroll. I am really happy with how this turned out! My little Monkey can't wait for me to get some chalk so she can test it out!
Now my only question, do I leave the oak frame as is, or do I paint it? Any suggestions?
So, I now have a great love for chalk board paint! It is so much fun, and so easy! You can find it at your local hardware store near the specialty paints, or spray paints. One quart cost me $12.95. Since I am planning on using it for at least 4 more projects, I thought that was just fine! Can't wait to try it out again! Just my humble opinion...but I'd leave the oak as is. It's a good contrast with the black paint. I don't think you'd realize the antiquity of the piece if you painted it.

Yep, I agree with you, painting it was more just a thought that crossed my mind. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely leave it oak! It is such a beautiful piece. I really love how it turned out. Hope Tara has fun using it.
ReplyDeleteI vote for leaving the oak. It is a nice contrast to the chalk board black paint and it also keeps the vintage feel. Your link to my blog is working. Great job and thanks for joining as a new follower !!! I will be doing the favor back as well. I love to find new bloggers.
ReplyDeleteI think you should leave it oak, oak is so nice! You really did a wonderful job on this!
